Soccer Report Extra Podcast: Episode 68 – Balotelli & ‘The Big Giant Head’

Stop the presses!  Eoin has figured out what’s bothering Super Mario.  Turns out it’s Joleon Lescott’s massively intimidating five-head that’s got the young Italian unsettled to the point of madness (or was it Vincent Kompany’s equally massive and imposing gut – not to worry, Eoin explains).

This week we devote an entire podcast (well, most of it anyway) to Arsenal’s impressive home win over title hopefuls, Manchester City.  It’s a result that more-or-less spells the end of City’s run at the Premier League crown; and after another display of unbridled petulance, Balotelli’s adventure in the English top-flight might very well be over.

I heart this pod as always, but I must disagree w/Eoin: Balotelli doesn’t have a unique personality. Brattiness is not all that unique.

    Great pod, as always!

  2. Ed Gomes says:

Am I the only one that thinks the FA didn’t suspend Balotelli for the remainder of the season for entertainment purposes.
They’re sticking it to Mancini and it will be fun too watch it play out. I have a feeling Mario’s apology will ring hollow.

Arsenal continues to tease. Frankly, for me, their season is only successful due to earlier incompetency.

Lets not forget Dalglish with his conspiracy comments. He must be right. I bet even Carroll is in on it. That one actually seems plausible.
Speaking of Carroll, he says he wants out and might even be willing to take a pay cut. Nah, really?
I say he stays just because he won’t take a pay cut.

  3. Max says:

“Only idiots will compare Balotelli to Cantona.”
    – Peter Schmeichel

    Great pod.

  4. Ed Gomes says:

Haven’t gotten a chance to read anything yet, but I’m sure Dalglish is once again singing Carroll’s praises. Although Carroll is what he is, and that isn’t good enough.
I’m sure Maxi will once again find himself at the end of the bench after today’s exhibit.

  5. jtm371 says:

Are we going to see you after April 30th i have heard rumors that the report is going away?I look forward to Mondays and Fridays. I wish you all the best in the future.

  6. JTM371 – Shaw Media is closing down Fox Sports World Canada so we will not be available in Canada. The FSR will continue on Fox Soccer in the USA for the foreseeable future.

  7. rdm says:

Any chance of starting up a streaming service for those of us living in said country? Why’s it always the good stuff that gets effected? Sad news.

  8. jtm371 says:

thanks for the great news sorry for all the Canadian fans.

  9. RDM – that would be a question to Shaw Media as the owners.

  10. CDNGooner14 says:

With all due respect, Fox Sports World was a terrible channel. With the exception of FSR, there really was nothing else worth watching.

  11. Roberto Senyera says:

I must admit that I was one of those that called the title to ManC after that epic 1-6 at the Old Toilet. I obviously was premature in awarding the EPL title to the red Mancs back then based on my jubilation. For that I apologize to Mr. Bobby and Eoin. I’m eating crow and need some humble pie. I don’t get the all right.

However, even though ManU will still end up winning the title even after today (th gap is now five points — little difference in the overall scheme of things, I know, they lost at Wigan with less than 50% possession — to relegation threatened Wigan!

ManU will win the EPL title this year. They did last year. Both years I’ve been extremely unimpressed with Fergie’s side. Two very down years in the EPL.

If the two Manc sides were in La Liga, Valencia would be nipping at their heels. And both Manc sides would get four proper spankings every year from the big two Spanish giants. And to that, I say, Mancs, “Whose your daddy?”

  12. Roberto Senyera says:

correction: first paragraph s/b “blue Mancs”.

  13. Roberto Senyera says:

And I totally disagree with Eoin on this:

Mourinho is under contract for the next two years at RM. However, he is unhappy, and the only other place he is going to in the summer is ManC. They have the resources. Everywhere he has been since and including Porto he has had a distinct advantage wrt financial resources. That’s his MO.

Fergie isn’t going anywhere in the next two years. Mo isn’t going back to Chelsea because of the Russian and there is way too much re-tooling to do there with many of his old boys. Arsenal have resources but they’re far too parsimonious and they like the Frenchman — no chance there. Every other EPL simply doesn’t have the financial resources to quench Mo’s thirst.

Bayern Munich could be a possibility.

The probability is ManC. Despite what Eoin thinks. It’s totally logical.

Mancini has proven repeatedly that he’s unfit for that post. I swear, I could have managed ManC past ManU this year. Mancini is inept.

    Mancini out. Balotelli out.

    Mourinho in.

This isn’t rocket surgery, after all, people.

  14. Roberto Senyera says:

And it was a great pod. One of your best ones.

  15. Roberto Senyera says:

Rogers has already shut down FSW Canada. It was a monstrously poor product. The only things good about it was FSR and Football Rivalries. An embarrassingly bad network.

I will miss seeing your mug and astute commentary. You’re even starting to dress better.
