Soccer Report Extra Podcast: Episode 39 – Smooth Operators

Written by on September 27, 2011 | 4 Comments »
Posted in Soccer Report Extra Podcast

This week on the pod Bobby & Eoin focus (almost exclusively) on results from Round 6 of the Premier League.  Topics for discussion include United’s lack of focus when a certain Mr. Rooney is unavailable,  Luis Suarez’ short fuze when the little Uruguayan doesn’t get to play the full 90, Robin van Persie’s fantasy football attributes, and the similarities between the career trajectories of Michael Owen & Owen Hargreaves (plus or minus one hamster wheel)…  We even throw in a few classic pop references from the 80’s and 90’s just to keep things current, enjoy!

I’ll give this one to you straight up … loved the podcast … and this is no ordinary love (let’s see if you can spot those ones Eoin). Cheers.

Guys, I think Valencia started at right back because of how strong he is compared to the twins combined with United’s natural defenders who could match up with a physical team like Stoke being injured.

As far as I’ve seen with Van Persie is that he seems to get on hot streaks. Last season he took me from mid table to top table with that impressive goal run from January and on so I’d stick with him. I’m in a similar situation with Odemwingie at the moment. Also, as cruel as this does sound, I’d be going with any Manchester City players for this weekends fixtures. Blackburn walked off this past weekend with a good amount of injuries to their starting defenders, who lets face it, aren’t going to stop City this weekend (Knock on wood).

How did y’all know “Smooth Operator” is one of my favorite songs of all-time. This podcast is so much love!

Also, I want to hear the complete list of Eoin’s man crushes.

Finally, are you going to have a CL-specific pod later this week?

  4. Steve says:

Hey guys great podcast. I’m in your fantasy league, Eoin I had Van Persie from the beginning also but unlike you I dropped him after the Swansea game for Dzeko (who hasn’t scored since), wish I hadn’t done that.

If Rooney isn’t fit for United I think they should play Ashley Young in his position, I think he played there for Aston Villa. Then they can use Valencia or Giggs on whichever wing with Nani on the other.
