In a special midweek edition of the podcast, Bobby & Eoin are all over last weekend’s 2014 World Cup Qualifying draw, like Ronaldo on a Denny’s Grand Slam Breakfast!  Cheap & Tasteless?! I know, the food there is nearly as bad as that last joke.  I digest.  This time out, your dynamic ‘draw-day duo’ take an in-depth look at draw results for CONCACAF & UEFA, help you sift through the clutter of “who plays who, when, in what round?”, and get you set for the World Cup Qualifying marathon that is to come.

first of all: I like the sound of my name with a Scottish accent but sorry, Bobby, nothing beat the sound of your name from the most beautiful voice on TV, Michelle Lissel.

Second: Why did I have the feeling that you are picking on Ronaldo because you are still upset that his first pick from the pot was Belgium to group A?

    On a more serious note:
You mentioned that the runner-up from group A might benefit from less points dropped because of the quality of the 6th seed.
This is a two edge sword. Because of the good quality of the 5th and 4th, there will be less points gained compared to other runner-ups where most of their points will be coming from these teams.
So, the parity might be more detremental to group A runner-up.
In other word, group A runner-up, in my opinion, is the most likely one to miss out on the play-off.

Finally, I don’t know why I am picking on Scotland. Is it possible that I like Kenny Dalglish very much and I am trying to compensate?

All I know is that your Photoshop guru rocks!

Who is it, Michelle or Eoin… cause I know Bobby thinks Photoshop is the place you submit camera film for processing.

  3. Mark says:

Sorry to post off topic, but Klinsmann just named his 22 man squad to face Mexico. I guess Dempsey is injured?

  4. Gus Keri says:

Klinsmann selected the most politically correct team for the USA.

He pleased almost every body including the former coach, Bob Bradley, by choosing some of his most controvercial players.

But what is most important, he brought on the best possible team for now and let them fight for a spot on his team.

    A smart choice so far.

  5. Poducer Luke is the brains behind the photoshopping.
I never know what he is going to put up so it always a surprise.

  6. Mary Gillmeister says:

Ah, I was hoping for a discussion of the relative merits of Seychelles v Kenya….the CAF draw was interminable, much like the rest of the draw show on Saturday. I’m still trying to figure out how they spent 30 million on it, or was that the cost of the buffet for Ronaldo?

Good episode – not sure why we expect any of the big Uefa powers to go out – do we really want a WC without Germany, Holland, Italy or Spain…or even France (sorry Eoin) and if only for the comedy value? I don’t.

Anyway, the only way that will ever happen is if they reduce the number of pots in the groups. As you suggested, it should be relatively easy for the top seeds to qualify. And as sure as flowers bloom in the spring it will be more or less a cake-walk for England to get there, and as usual, that will mean absolutely nothing once we finally have to face quality opposition…

  7. Gus Keri says:

An interesting piece of news went under the radar might benefit the USA bid for the 2026 World Cup.

The Uruguayan and Argentinian presidents signed an agreement to work on a combine bid to host the 2030 WC. (The centenary anniversary of the Uruguay 1930 WC where both nations met in the final game)

    What does this mean?

It means that Europe, Asia (including Australia) and South America can’t bid for the 2026 World Cup. It means only CONCACAF and Africa can bid for it.

Considering that Africa just hosted it in 2010, it is most likely will be given to CONCACAF.

The chance of the USA hosting the 2026 WC is hugely improved.

  8. Erik says:

To “Heck” with the WCQ Draw. What we REALLLLLLY want to know is the Porn Star that Eion saw on his vacation. Inquiring (and other kinds of) Minds want/need to know. No more “holding out” – Eion needs “to give it up” (I could go on all night with the double meaning statements).
