Answers to questions 41-50

A-41, fourteen (14).

A-42, the first extra time required in a final was 1958 when Real Madrid beat Milan 3-2 with Gento scoring the extra time winner.

A-43, False, Bayern Munich beat Atletico Madrid in 1976 4-0 in a replay after the first game finished 1-1 after extra time.

A-44, In 1960 Real Madrid and Eintracht Frankfurt shared 10 goals with Real Madrid scoring 7.

A-45, “Benfica and the curse of Bela Guttmann” – Benfica became the second team to win the European Cup when they beat Barcelona in the 1961 final. A year later they retained the trophy beating Real Madrid 5-3. However, Coach Bela Guttmann quit after a row over bonus money and was said to have placed a curse on Benfica. True or not Benfica lost European Cup Finals in 1963 (Milan), 1965 (Inter), 1968 (Manchester United), PSV Eindhoven (1988) and Milan (1990) and have never won a final since 1962. That makes it 49 years and counting.

A-46, Six – Miguel Muñoz, Giovanni Trapattoni, Johan Cruyff, Carlo Ancelotti, Frank Rijkaard and Pep Guardiola.

A-47, Yes and it was Barcelona Coach Pep Guardiola who did it in 2009.

A-48, England with 4 – Manchester United, Liverpool, Nottingham Forest and Aston Villa

A-49, It has happened three times – 1957 Real Madrid beat Fiorentina 2-0 at the Bernabeu; 1964 Inter beat Benfica 1-0 at the Giuseppe Meazza; 1983/84 the only team to lose,  Roma, at the Stadio Olympico went down to Liverpool on penalties after a 1-1 draw.

A-50, Six – Celtic in 1967, Ajax in 1972, PSV in 1988, Manchester United in 1999, Barcelona in 2009 and Inter in 2010.
