Baker’s Dozen – Liverpool Pass Stoke To A Man, Palermo Succeed While Lazio Fail

1.    A late goal from Gabby Agbonlahor extended Aston Villa’s unbeaten run against Everton in the Premier League to 11 games.  Villa has won 4 and drawn 7.

2.    Stoke has only scored three goals in four Barclay’s Premier League games but they have still accumulated 8 points,  are unbeaten and sit fourth.

3.    Stoke went in at half-time leading Liverpool 1-0 and leading at half time is a relatively rare occurrence for Stoke. In 38 games last season they only led six times at the break.

4.    Every starting Liverpool player – even goalkeeper Jose Reina – completed more passes than any Stoke player.

5.    Swansea became the first team since Newcastle in 2005/06 to go scoreless in their first four games of a Premier League season.

6.    Tottenham’s 2-0 win at Wolves was their first win away from home in league play in September since 2001.

7.    With a 2-1 win Hertha BSC Berlin became the first visiting Bundesliga team to win at Borussia Dortmund since the opening day of last season.

8.    Napoli’s 3-1 win at Cesena should have been a surprise. The home side has never won their first Serie A match of the season.

9.    Milan’s fight back to draw 2-2 with Lazio after slipping behind 2-0 extended their unbeaten streak against Lazio in Serie A matches to an incredible 27.

10.    Manchester United has had 37 shots on target in their first four Premier League matches and have scored 17 goals. *does not include own goal by WBA.

11.     It was thirteenth time lucky for Toronto FC as they finally beat the Columbus Crew for the first time. It was also the first away win of the season for Toronto FC.

12.    San Jose Earthquakes and Chivas USA went into Saturday’s games as the only two MLS teams who had yet to be awarded a penalty.

The Quakes broke that duck but they have yet to score from the spot after Sean Johnson saved a rather tame effort from Chris Wondolowski.

13.    Sunday’s Serie A game between Palermo and Inter was an absolute cracker. Seven goals with six coming in the second half, great strikes, build ups and some bad goalkeeping and defending.

Palermo’s win was their first in 12 Serie A matches against Inter and only their second in 23 league matches.
