It was not quite a national or MLS record crowd but nevertheless it was an impressive turnout that welcomed Major League Soccer and the Chicago Fire to Montreal on Saturday. (If you are just interested in the result go to the end!)
The attendance at Olympic Stadium set a new record for a soccer game in Montreal but fell just short of the Canadian record (60,342 attended a Vancouver Whitecaps game in BC Place in 1983) and the MLS record of 61,316 fans who attended MLS Cup 2002 in Foxborough to see the LA Galaxy beat the home town team the New England Revolution.
