A little less than 24 hours before the match Arsenal released their financial statements for the year to May 31, 2014 and that also contained a lot of good news and with a promise of more to come. Often newspapers only provide what they are given by the club in the press release and any comparisons are usually limited to the previous year. To read on please click on the link.

Brilliantly done, Bobby. The new stadium was always going to be a case of short term pain for long term gain. That Wenger kept them in the CL every year (sometimes with far more luck than one would have expected might come the Gunners way…) has been a truly great achievement, despite what the naysayers might like to think.

I must admit I was one of the supporters wondering about the possibility/wisdom of using some of the cash in reserve to shorten the stadium debt horizon. For much of the past 2-3 seasons they’ve looked unlike a CL club. The idea was that the 10-20m in payment reductions (and a corresponding increase in player payroll) might mean the difference between getting 30m in CL income and the UEFA cup (or nothing). I see from your statements that this might not have been a fair assessment of the clubs financial position.

Bladen – Parroting praise on the penny pincher for consistently winning his 4th place trophy with 2 billionaire shareholders, selling off their best players and saving a few million and not buying the likes of Cahil, Gustavo, Higuain, Remy, etc which would have seen Arsenal win at least one league title over the past decade is classic.

Even better than echoing “Glazer debt placed on the club prohibiting buying their way to the top ” as they sign world class talent like Falcao, Di Maria, etc…

    Keep up the bad work!

I knew some idiot with a complete lack of understanding of the business (of sport or otherwise) would start pissing and moaning about billionaire shareholders… predictable, and stupid.

Great piece, Bobby, which I’ve linked on my own blog. Did you read The Swiss Ramble’s piece on Arsenal’s latest year-end figures?
